Setting Up Your First Project

Updated March 11, 2026

Create a rank tracking project to monitor your keyword positions. This guide walks you through creating your first project.

Creating a Project

Step 1: Navigate to Projects

  1. Go to Projects from the main navigation
  2. You'll see a list of your projects (empty if this is your first)
  3. Click "Create Project" button

Step 2: Enter Project Details

Fill in the project form:

Project Name:

  • Enter a descriptive name
  • Examples: "Main Website", "Blog Rankings", "Product Pages"
  • Choose something that helps you identify the project

Domain:

  • Enter your website domain
  • Examples: "example.com", "blog.example.com"
  • Don't include "http://" or "https://"
  • Use the main domain you want to track

Import Keywords (Optional):

  • You can import keywords from Google Search Console
  • Select a GSC property if you have one connected
  • This will import keywords you're already ranking for — giving you a head start with proven search terms
  • You can skip this and add keywords manually later, but GSC import is recommended because it provides keywords with real search volume data

Step 3: Create the Project

  1. Review your project details
  2. Click "Create" button
  3. Your project is created and ready for keywords

After Creating a Project

After creating a project, you'll see:

  • Project overview — Basic project information
  • Keywords table — Empty initially, ready for keywords
  • Add Keywords button — To start adding keywords
  • Project settings — Access to project configuration

For details on configuring your project, see Project Settings & Configuration.

Common Questions

Can I change the project name or domain later?

Yes. Edit both in project settings. However, changing the domain breaks the URL-to-ranking mapping for existing keywords — historical data is preserved, but new rankings won't match correctly. It's usually better to create a new project for a different domain.

How many projects can I have?

There is no strict limit. Create separate projects for different domains or marketing campaigns. For subdomains (e.g., blog.example.com), you can track them in the same project as your root domain or create a separate project — a separate project gives cleaner data if the subdomain has distinct content and keywords.

Can I delete a project?

Yes. Deleting a project also removes all keyword tracking data for that project.
