Ranking History & Trends

Updated March 11, 2026

The Ranking History page shows aggregated trends across all keywords in a project, helping you measure overall SEO progress rather than individual keyword movements.

Accessing Ranking History

Open a rank tracking project and click the History tab.

The Charts

The page displays six chart panels, each showing a different perspective on your project's ranking performance over time.

Average Position

Your mean ranking position across all tracked keywords. Since position 1 is the best, a line trending downward on this chart (the number getting smaller) means your rankings are improving. A line trending upward (the number getting larger) means rankings are declining.

Volume-Weighted Average Position

Like Average Position, but weighted by each keyword's search volume. This gives more influence to high-traffic keywords, making it a better indicator of actual traffic impact.

Top 1 Count

How many of your keywords rank in position 1. Track this to measure how many "winning" positions you hold.

Top 3 Count

How many keywords rank in positions 1–3. These top spots receive the vast majority of clicks.

Top 10 Count

How many keywords appear on the first page of search results (positions 1–10).

Top 100 Count

How many keywords rank anywhere in the top 100. A declining Top 100 count may indicate pages being deindexed or losing relevance.

Tag Comparison

You can compare ranking trends across keyword tags. Use the tag selector above the charts to pick up to 3 tags to overlay their data on the charts. This is useful for:

  • Comparing topic areas — See which content categories are improving fastest
  • Measuring campaign impact — Tag keywords by campaign and track results separately
  • Identifying weak spots — Find tag groups where rankings are declining

Tip: Tag your keywords consistently when adding them. Well-organized tags make the History page much more useful for tracking progress by topic or campaign.

Common Questions

What time range do the charts cover?

The charts show data from the project's creation date to the present. Use the date range selector in the top-right corner of the charts area to zoom into a specific period (e.g., last 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or a custom range).

Why do the Average Position and Volume-Weighted Position differ?

If your high-volume keywords rank better (or worse) than your low-volume ones, these two metrics will diverge. The volume-weighted metric better reflects your actual organic traffic performance.

Can I export this data?

Yes. Use the export option to download the chart data as a CSV for further analysis in spreadsheets or reporting tools.
