Step 1: Choose Your Topic
The first step of the optimization wizard is selecting the primary topic (keyword) you want to target. This sets the direction for your entire optimization.
The Goal
Select a keyword that is relevant to your page and has good potential for traffic growth.
How to Choose
- Review the Suggestion: Content Raptor pre-selects a "Focus Keyword" based on your data. This is usually your best opportunity.
- Check the Metrics: Look at the current Position and Potential Gain.
- Confirm: If the keyword fits your content, click "Next".
Customizing Your Topic
If you want to target a different keyword:
- Click "Change focus keyword" to see other ranking keywords.
- Select a different keyword from the list.
- OR type a new keyword in the search field at the top of the keyword list and select "Set as focus keyword".
Tip: Stick with the pre-selected keyword unless it's irrelevant to your page. It's chosen because the data shows the best potential for improvement.
Common Questions
Can I change this later?
Yes, you can navigate back to this step during the wizard (before clicking "Start Optimizing" in Step 4). Once you start writing in the editor, the keyword is locked.
What if the list is empty?
This means Content Raptor couldn't find Google Search Console (GSC) data for this specific page — either the page is new, hasn't been indexed, or doesn't receive search traffic yet. You can still type in a manual keyword to target.
