Finding Ranking Opportunities
Identify keywords that have the highest potential for ranking improvement and traffic gains.
What Are Ranking Opportunities?
Ranking opportunities are keywords in your project that have room to improve — typically keywords ranking outside the top positions but with meaningful search volume (100+ monthly searches). Content Raptor surfaces these automatically based on your current rankings and estimated traffic potential.
Accessing Opportunities
- Go to your project.
- Click the "Opportunities" tab.
- Browse the list of keywords sorted by potential impact.
Opportunity Metrics
Each opportunity displays:
- Keyword — The search term
- Current Position — Where you currently rank
- Last 60 Days Position — A sparkline chart showing recent position trends
- Volume — Estimated monthly searches
- Opp. Grade — A letter grade (A–F) reflecting the keyword's optimization potential, based on current and past rankings plus search volume
Starting an Optimization
- Find a keyword you want to optimize.
- Click the optimize icon next to it.
- This launches the content optimization wizard for that keyword and its target URL. If no target URL is set, you'll be prompted to confirm the ranking URL — check that it's the page you actually want to optimize, not a different page that's ranking unintentionally (see Domain vs. Exact URL Tracking for more on this).
- Follow the wizard to create or update optimized content.
Common Questions
What if I don't see any opportunities?
You may need to add more keywords to your project, or your tracked keywords may already be in top positions.
Can I start a content optimization directly from opportunities?
Yes. Click "Optimize" on any opportunity to go straight into the content optimization workflow.
How is Opp. Grade calculated?
The opportunity grade considers the keyword's current and past rankings as well as search volume to assign a letter grade (A–F). Higher grades indicate keywords where ranking improvements are both achievable and impactful.
